In 2003 one of the nation's leading medical centers moved all of their outsourced enterprise applications to an in-house data center built around an IBM mainframe from Jeskell. The relationship actually began back in 2000, when the center decided to bring two critical outsourced applications in-house.
Like many other organizations at the time, the center would not even consider a mainframe. So, Jeskell furnished an IBM NumaQ UNIX-based system and combined it with third party software providing OS/390 emulation. The result was a UNIX box that ran OS/390 with traditional OS/390 applications.
This initial success led the customer to more closely analyze their outsourcing costs. What they found was that the savings could be significant—approximately $220,000 per month—if they brought all of the outsourced applications in-house. When Jeskell showed them how a new IBM zSeries mainframe (z800) could meet all their requirements and pay for itself within months, the decision was made.
In addition to furnishing the IBM zSeries box, Jeskell helped the customer identify the applications capacity requirements and the hardware capabilities needed to run all the applications. Jeskell also helped the center with project management and provided all zSeries installation services.
The new data center is now in full production. According to a center spokesperson, “Although the move in-house was a long process, Jeskell provided outstanding support at every step.”
